Our little Journey

Before Amsterdam

I was born and raised in Western North Carolina in the United States of America. I am from the Eastern Band of Cherokees and call the Smoky Mountains my true home. I started my path in writing in 2015, when I became a staff writer for the Daily Tar Heel. I went on to earn a degree in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill, before getting my first chance as a full-time professional in the field. I accepted a reporter position at the Cherokee One Feather, and I believe it might be the best job I’ll ever have. The staff was amazing, I got to write about my home and community, and my sense of freedom was true. This is when I got to properly cut my teeth as a writer.

After five years with the One Feather, I left my post to get a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Amsterdam. I had a dreams of exploring Europe, learning a new language, and falling more in love with what it is to be human. After nearly three years living in Amsterdam, I can happily report that I have accomplished those initial goals.
